Welcome to www.TeachMeiOS.com where you will find tips, tricks, tools, and tutorials for your iPhone, iPad (Mini), and iPod Touch. In this brief tutorial, I will show you how to use all of the camera features available on your iOS device. The first feature is that you can access your camera from the lock screen on the iPhone and the iPod Touch. When you hit the home button and the screen activates, you'll see on the right of the slide to unlock the camera symbol. Simply tap that and drag up to access the camera. Once you have the camera app open, there are a number of different features you can access by simply tapping on the screen. First, you can tap to focus on various parts of the screen if you want to tap on a certain element in the photo. The focus will change. That is tap to focus. You can tap and hold for auto exposure and auto focus lock. So, for example, if I want to focus on something in the lower part of the screen, I can tap and hold with my finger and then the AE/AF Lock appears at the bottom of the screen. If I move the camera up now, the focus stays locked and you get a blurry look in the background. This is especially helpful for portrait shots and for photos where you want to capture a close up with the background blurred. To release that, just tap and hold anywhere on the screen for a few seconds. Another feature is pinch to zoom. With two fingers on the screen, spread them apart and you will be able to zoom in. Once activated, you can tap on the slider itself to zoom in and out. Keep in mind that when you zoom in, it is a digital zoom. So, it will pixelate the image slightly as you zoom in cause lower resolution of the photo. The next feature is accessed in the upper left corner. Tap on it and you can access the flash features: auto, on, or off. This will give you a flash option for when you take a photo. In the center of your screen you will see the options button. Tapping on this gives you various options for composing your picture. Grid puts a grid on your screen. This is especially helpful for lining up elements in the photo to capture the best photo possible. In addition to grid you have HDR. HDR captures two photos, one that is overexposed and one that is underexposed and then blends the two to bring out detail in the background of a photo like the sky on a sunny day. The last feature under options is Panorama. This is only available on the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 as well as the newest iPod Touch. Tapping on panorama takes you into panorama mode. Basically, you hit the start button to begin capturing the photo and it will direct you as you go around the screen, telling you to move up or down as needed. Tap end to capture the photo. You will get a total of 240 degrees of panorama. Clicking done takes you back to normal photo mode. In the upper right hand corner you can tap to switch to the front facing camera. This can be helpful in certain situations where you want to take a self-portrait and see what you are capturing. There I am, right there. Tapping it again takes you back to the rear facing camera. The last feature is down on the bottom right hand corner. You will see the toggle to switch between camera mode and video mode. Tapping on that switches to video mode. So those are the features that are accessible on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for the camera feature, taking photos and video. Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.
