Wide of fans confronting policemen STORYLINE Clashes broke out in Madrid on Wednesday night between Spanish police and football fans celebrating Atletico Madrid's victory in the Europa League final. Several thousand fans poured into central Madrid's Neptuno square, where police had put fences up in a failed attempt to prevent the crowds from occupying the middle of the square and blocking traffic. The violence started when a small group of fans started to throw bottles and other projectiles at police. Police reinforcements entered the square to try to push the crowd back. Several people were arrested. Atletico Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the all-Spanish final.
